About Alexander McCall Smith
Alexander McCall Smith is a Scottish writer and professor. He is best known for his No Ladies Detective Agency series, as well as his 44 Scotland Street series and his Isabel Dalhousie series. McCall Smith was born in Zimbabwe in 1948. He studied law at the University of Edinburgh and then worked as a lawyer in Botswana for several years. In 1981, he returned to Scotland to teach law at the University of Edinburgh. He began writing fiction in the early 1990s, and his first novel, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, was published in 1998.
McCall Smith is a prolific writer, and he has published more than 100 books in a variety of genres, including mystery, crime, romance, and children's fiction. He is also a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines, and he has written several non-fiction books, including The Meaning of Life: A Short Guide and My Scotland.
