The Invasion of Ugbo

In the early 14th century, the Igbo people, a neighboring tribe, invaded the Oyo Empire. The Igbo warriors were fierce and skilled, and they quickly overwhelmed the Oyo army. King Oranmiyan and his forces were forced to retreat, and the Igbo took control of the Oyo capital. With her husband and people in danger, Moremi knew she had to do something.

Disguising herself as a trader, Moremi traveled to Ugbo, the Igbo capital. She spent months living among the Igbo people, observing their customs and learning their secrets. Moremi discovered that the Igbo warriors were able to defeat the Oyo army because they used a powerful charm that made them invisible to their enemies. Determined to save her people, Moremi stole the charm and returned to Oyo.

The Battle of Ife

With the Igbo charm in her possession, Moremi led the Oyo army back to Ife. The Igbo warriors were surprised to see their enemies suddenly able to see them, and they were quickly defeated. The Oyo army drove the Igbo out of the city, and King Oranmiyan was able to reclaim his throne. Moremi's bravery and sacrifice had saved the Oyo Empire.

In recognition of her heroism, Moremi was given the title of Ajasoro, which means "one who fought for her people." She became a respected leader and advisor to the king, and her story was passed down through generations.

Later Life and Legacy

Moremi Ajasoro lived a long and full life. She died in the late 14th century and was buried in the town of Efon Alaaye, where her tomb is still a popular pilgrimage site.
