Materials
* A set of picture cards * A set of number cards * A whiteboard or piece of paper * A marker
Instructions
1. Shuffle the picture cards and place them face down in a pile. 2. Shuffle the number cards and place them face down in a pile. 3. Divide the children into two teams. 4. The first team takes a picture card and a number card. 5. The team has to solve the problem on the picture card using the number on the number card. 6. For example, if the picture card shows a farmer with 5 sheep and the number card shows the number 3, the team would need to solve the problem "How many sheep does the farmer have left if he sells 3 sheep?" 7. The team has 1 minute to solve the problem. 8. If the team solves the problem correctly, they get a point. 9. The teams take turns until all of the picture cards have been used. 10. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Variations
* For younger children, you can use simpler picture cards and number cards. * For older children, you can use more challenging picture cards and number cards. * You can also vary the time limit for solving the problems.
Benefits
This activity is a fun and engaging way for children to develop their problem solving reasoning skills. It also helps children to develop their mathematical understanding and their ability to work as a team.
Here are some additional tips for helping children to develop their problem solving reasoning skills:
* Encourage children to ask questions. * Help children to break down problems into smaller steps. * Provide children with opportunities to practice solving problems. * Praise children for their effort, even if they don't solve the problem correctly.
